Real Estate Client Gifts that Don't Suck

It’s not the thought that counts.  It’s the thoughtful thought that counts.

Gift giving can be a challenge.  You want to give something unique but don’t know where to start.  Here are some ideas to help you get going.  I’ll update this list as often as I think of something new and different.  If you would like to submit an idea to be included in the list, I’d be happy to add it.

Read up on gift giving to learn about what makes a good gift and what makes a bad gift here.

  • A handcrafted cutting board
    • Add a nice selection of meats and/or cheeses and a fancy knife
  • Custom wood burned art
  • Other custom wood or art pieces
    • Entry tables, dining room tables, patio benches, bowls, light fixtures, wine racks, etc
    • Check out Benson Family Furniture for ideas and custom quotes.
  • Landscape photography (I have a nice selection of various prints)
  • LDS Temple photography (for those agents with LDS clients.  I also have a nice selection of various prints)
  • Tickets to an event or show
    • Think aquarium, symphony, the zoo, local theme parks, sporting events
    • Don’t buy the cheap, nose bleed seats
    • First make sure the family actually likes the event
  • Gift cards to their favorite store.
    • Don’t buy generic gift cards to Starbucks, or a gas station, or iTunes
    • Make it a “sizable” amount.  A $25 gift card doesn’t speak as well about how much you value their relationship as a $100 gift card; especially if they have a family of 6 and it is to their favorite restaurant.
  • National Parks annual pass for outdoorsy people: only $80 and can be used for any 12 month period
  • A hardback subject specific book that relates to their interests
    • Barnes and Noble has a great selection of subject specific books about the Civil War, James Bond, Automobiles, Ireland, etc.
  • A leather bound journal
    • Barnes and Noble also has a great selection of hand-tied leather journals.  I have two and they are amazing.
  • Gift Certificate to a day spa or couple’s massage
    • Make sure they will use it.  If someone gave my parents a gift certificate for a couple’s massage, they aren't the kind of couple that would ever use it.
